The Quad at Salt Lake Community College

Salt Lake Community College wanted to improve a large area east of their Student Center on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. Their primary objective was to create a more inviting area for students, faculty, and staff; as well as visitors and the community.

The “Quad” space was reimagined and designed to bring students together while connecting them with nature. The spaces were designed to create areas to study, to socialize, to invite collaboration, create an invigorating place to teach, and even a place to reflect and de-stress.

The “Realm” emerged in an area of the Quad that made use of an existing fountain feature and created fresh walkways, rock gardens, a forest, meadow and desert area. There is even a solar solstice component that organized the various design features through the site.

We used Xeriscape design principles and water-wise plants in the installation.
